Say hello to The Slow Shop: vintage goods and designed objects from Manual & Ladybgoods in our Chicago storefront studio.

In reaction to a world of over-production, The Slow Shop celebrates second-hand design—objects that are durable enough to last and unique enough to celebrate long after the “newness” has worn off.

As a designer, I have always wanted to create objects that people want to use forever. But there’s also something magical about seeing something I made pop up in a secondary market, like this Manual frosted decanter we recently stumbled across in a thrift store.

Is my designer ego bruised by the fact that my object is on a thrift store rack? Maybe a little, but there’s also humility to be found in the anonymity of a rack of used objects. They no longer have the luster of the “new” but they live on—with a patina only gained through age—who knows where they might end up next?
